Pregnancy & postnatal

Your body is doing something extraordinary, and it deserves training that respects that, with real strength to help carry you through birth and your postpartum recovery. I’m here to support you, encourage you and get you feeling strong.

During pregnancy

Strong mum, strong pregnancy.

There’s a lot of outdated advice out there telling pregnant women to take it easy and put the weights down. The research says otherwise. For most healthy pregnancies, staying active and strong is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your baby.

Pregnancy is not the time to stop. It’s the time to train smart. I’ll take the guesswork out, adapting every session to your body, your trimester and how you feel on the day, so you can keep doing what you love with confidence.

150 min

Australian and international guidelines recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week during pregnancy, including strength training.

Lower risk

Regular exercise in pregnancy is linked to lower rates of gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and high blood pressure.

Feel better

Research also links it to fewer symptoms of depression, and less low back and pelvic pain.

Pelvic floor

Pelvic floor training in pregnancy is shown to reduce the risk of leaking, both late in pregnancy and after birth.

Every pregnancy is different. Please check with your GP, obstetrician or midwife before starting exercise, especially if you have any complications.

Trimester by trimester

What we work on, and when

Here’s how training tends to evolve through your pregnancy. Everything adapts to you, so think of this as a guide, not a rulebook.

Weeks 1–13

First trimester

Fatigue and nausea can hit hard, so we work with your energy, not against it. On good days we keep lifting; on rough days we scale right back. Most of your usual training can carry on, with a few tweaks.

  • Keep your strength base: squats, hinges, rows and presses
  • Learn breathing that manages pressure through your core and pelvic floor
  • Pelvic floor awareness: contracting and, just as importantly, relaxing
Weeks 14–27

Second trimester

Energy often comes back, which makes this a brilliant window for building strength. As your bump grows we start adjusting positions and how we load your core.

  • Progress your lifts where it feels good: goblet squats, split squats, RDLs, carries
  • Swap long stretches on your back for inclined or side-lying Pilates
  • Core work that respects your changing abdominal wall (watching for doming or coning)
Weeks 28–40

Third trimester

Now it’s about staying strong, comfortable and mobile while your body makes room for baby. Lighter loads, more support, and plenty of options.

  • Hip, pelvic girdle and upper back strength to ease common aches
  • Mobility for your hips, ribs and thoracic spine
  • Upper body strength for all the lifting and feeding ahead
From around 34 weeks

Birth prep

We turn our attention to helping you feel prepared and confident for birth, whatever kind of birth you have.

  • Pelvic floor lengthening and relaxation, not just squeezing
  • Breathing and positions you can use in labour
  • Stamina, and a plan for gently starting back afterwards

Common niggles I help with

Pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, rib pain, wrist and hand pain, tight hips, and that “everything feels loose” feeling. They’re common, but you don’t have to just put up with them. The right strength work and a few clever tweaks often make a big difference.

When to stop and check in

Stop and contact your midwife or doctor if you have vaginal bleeding, fluid leaking, regular painful contractions, chest pain, dizziness or feeling faint, calf pain or swelling, unusual shortness of breath, or your baby moving less than usual.

After birth

Your postnatal pathway, one phase at a time.

No two pregnancies or recoveries are the same, and that includes your first, second, third or fourth baby. You’ll feel different and recover differently each time, so we go at the pace your body sets, not the calendar.

Up to around 60% of women have some abdominal separation (diastasis) six weeks after birth, and it’s completely normal. With my training in Diastasis Done Differently and postpartum rehab, we focus on how your core functions and handles load, not just the size of the gap. C-section recovery, pelvic floor and rib flare all get extra care, and I’m always happy to work alongside your women’s health physio.

  1. Phase 1 · Weeks 0–6

    Reconnect

    Breath workReconnectionPelvic floorMobility

Reconnect to your breath, pelvic floor and core in an intentional rehab series. These first weeks are about coming back to your body after birth and rebuilding that mind–body connection from the ground up.

    3 classes a week · 5–10 minutes each

  2. Phase 2 · Weeks 6–12

    Rebuild

    ActivationMobilityBodyweight & bandsIntroducing weights

Rebuild your core and full-body strength with progressive, functional movement. This phase is about creating a strong, stable foundation you can rely on in daily mum life.

    3 classes a week · 10–15 minutes each

  3. Phase 3 · Weeks 12–18

    Reclaim

    Targeted coreMore resistancePilates + strength

You’ve reconnected with your body and rebuilt your foundation. Now it’s time to reclaim your strength. Phase 3 combines the precision of Pilates with full-body strength training: efficient, empowering classes built around where you are in your recovery. Expect intentional movement, a satisfying burn and a growing sense of just how capable your body is. This is your comeback phase, and you are so ready for it.

  4. Phase 4 · Weeks 18–24

    Reignite

    Full-body workoutsProgressive overloadPlyometrics

After rebuilding strength and reclaiming confidence, we reignite your power. Quick, explosive movements like hops and jumps train your body to produce force fast and absorb impact safely. Paired with continued Pilates and strength work, this phase builds the power and impact tolerance you need before returning to running and other high-impact activities.

Your body is your guide

These sessions are designed to challenge you, but never at the expense of your recovery. Slow down or modify if you notice any of these during or after a session:

  1. Heaviness or pressure in your pelvis
  2. Dragging or discomfort in your pelvic floor
  3. Unusual pain around your scar or abdominal wall
  4. Leaking, bulging, or a sense that something doesn’t feel right

These are signals, not setbacks. Honour them. There’s no shame in modifying; it’s the smartest thing you can do for your long-term progress. If symptoms persist, check in with your women’s health physio before continuing.

What mums say

“I did 1-1 classes with Bridget throughout my pregnancy, she had a really good understanding of the changes I was going through and how I would need to adapt my Pilates. At the same time, I found she really pushed and challenged me to advance (even as I was getting bigger!), much more so than any other prenatal exercise I did. I went into birth and recovery feeling super strong and fit thanks to Bridget!”
Jenny WTrained through pregnancy
“Bridge is a really knowledgeable, friendly and reliable PT. Going into my second birth I really wanted to continue strength and cardio training in a safe way to feel strong and keep managing a toddler while pregnant! My training with Bridge really helped me to do that. She happily (and skilfully!) adjusted depending on how I was feeling and I always came out feeling better for having trained.”
Hannah MSecond pregnancy
“Training with Bridget throughout my prenatal fitness journey was the best decision. She didn’t just give me workouts, she educated me on safe modifications, which made me feel deeply comfortable and confident about staying active. Her guidance was key to ensuring I had a great, strong pregnancy.”
Vanda HPregnancy
“Bridget’s attentive Pilates sessions were such an important part of my post-birth recovery. I had a caesarean section and was very weak but found my strength came extremely quickly after we started our sessions. Bridget is very detailed and knowledgeable. Her flexible approach made it really easy to manage while I had a baby with me at our sessions.”
Sarah CPostnatal, after a caesarean
“Bridget was incredibly helpful in helping me rebuild my core strength and general fitness in the postnatal period. Her personal training was supportive but challenging and meticulous at the same time. Working with her meant I ended up feeling fitter and stronger than I had before pregnancy.”
Katherine RPostnatal
“Bridget has been an amazing support through my postpartum recovery and return to exercise. She is highly knowledgeable and developed a structured and personalised exercise programme for me, all in the comfort of my own home. I would highly recommend her services for any new (or expecting) mums!”
Daniela MPostnatal, at home
“I started seeing Bridget a few months after I had my baby to help rebuild my strength, in particular my core. Over the past 10 weeks Bridget has helped me to strengthen and stretch my hips, back and core. She’s able to help you push to your own personal limit and challenge yourself whilst still smiling and laughing. Couldn’t recommend her more highly!”
Georgina CPostnatal
“Sessions were very helpful during pregnancy to maintain strength and definitely helped during birth and beyond. She carefully selected exercises suitable for each trimester. We also worked together after birth to ease me back into exercising. I would recommend her to any pregnant woman.”
CigdemPregnancy & postnatal
“After my second child, I was stiff, experiencing lower back pain and a bit unsure about how to restart exercise. Doing Pilates with Bridget really helped me build back my strength and flexibility. She is a real expert in postnatal provision and has a lovely balance of being supportive but making you push yourself. We started off in person and I was sceptical that the sessions wouldn’t be as high quality when we moved online. But I found the online program just as impactful as the in-person sessions.”
